Perception Check — Delete your data

Perception Check, by Hidden Capy Studios, has no accounts of its own. Apart from a live game while it is on, and leaderboard times you chose to post (section 3), we keep nothing about you on our servers: everything else the app saves lives on your phone. Here is how to delete all of it.

1. Delete everything on your phone

On an Android phone:

  1. Open your phone's Settings, then Apps, then Perception Check.
  2. Tap Storage & cache, then Clear storage. Uninstalling the app does the same.

On an iPhone or iPad, deleting the app is the way (iOS has no button to clear one app's storage):

  1. Open Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage), then Perception Check.
  2. Tap Delete App. Pressing and holding the app's icon, then Remove App and Delete App, does the same. Offload App is not the same: it keeps the app's data for when you reinstall.

iOS keeps the app's anonymous Live id (section 3) in the iPhone's keychain even after the app is deleted. The app lets go of it the first time it opens after being installed again, so a new install never plays under the old id.

This deletes, at once and for good:

To delete one thing at a time instead: each diary entry has a Delete button, each Look up name has a Remove button, and the parking card has Found it — clear. Light today has Forget location, which forgets the kept weather forecast too. On Before the park, each checklist line has a remove button, and Start fresh for the next trip clears the ticks and the meeting spot. A parking spot also deletes itself about 20 hours after you save it.

2. Ad data held by Google

The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob receives your phone's advertising ID and a rough location worked out from your internet address. That data is held by Google, not by us, so we can't view or delete it. You can break the link yourself:

Google keeps and deletes ad data under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Buying the one-time Remove ads unlock turns the ads off, and with them the ads SDK's data collection.

3. Live games

If you play or watch a game in Live, the app gets an anonymous id for this phone from Firebase, the Google service we use. It carries no name, email or profile; other players see a handle made from it, like "Rosy Magpie", or the two words and the mark you picked from the app's own lists in Settings. A live game is stored with the ids of who is in it, their results or moves, the preset chat lines they picked, and any bring-back wishes and cheers they picked from the app's own lists, never anything typed.

A host who lets anyone join a room lists it, for about two hours, with its code, its kind, the host's handle and the seats taken; the listing is deleted when the race starts or the room ends, and otherwise within about a day after.

If you turned on Post my times, each daily you win is posted with its mark, the day and your handle to that day's and that week's leaderboard. Settings › Leaderboards › Remove my times deletes every one you posted from this phone at once; otherwise each is deleted automatically within about ten days.

Showing a game to phones nearby sends only its code and the kind of game, over the air to phones close by, and stores nothing.

4. Anything you sent us

If you sent us a bug report, a wish, a square, a drawing for the wall, a Capy Hop level or a Music room song, or emailed us, or want us to confirm there is nothing to delete, write to support@hiddencapy.com or use https://www.hiddencapy.com/contact. We delete what we hold within 30 days and tell you when it's done. For a drawing, tell us the day you drew it, and for a level or a song the day you shared it: we take it off the wall or the week's shelf as well as deleting it.
